Why don't they x-ray /MRI/catscan it ... give him strength tests. If the medical science is so advaanced that they know at 160 he's a ticking timebomb, why can't they just test him to see if he ok or not?

I thought the common line of thought is that every active pitcher has some sort of injury going on at this point of the season?

For some reason that reminds me of Bob Gibson's comments on the issue: "Of course it hurts. It's supposed to hurt when you throw hard. But there's a difference between pitching when it hurts and pitching when you're injured."

1. What if Strasburg pitches the rest of the season and is single-handedly responsible for blowing their chances for a championship?

2. Seriously, why the [expletive] is anyone around here this concerned about what the Washington Nationals and Stephen Strasburg do the rest of this or any other season?

I wouldn't say anyone here is concerned. It's just pretty weird that a pitcher, even as young as he is, is being shut down when he's clearly very, very important to this team's season. Especially considering the team's lack of being anything but mediocre since who knows when. I personally feel like it's great chatter for a sensible and awesome baseball board such as GRB to discuss. Is his 10 year plan more important than the Nationals serious bid at an NLCS this year? I cannot deny that I find this thread of MLB debate about as interesting than any other I can think of (since I'm ignoring our Cards' super blech-iness)

As the immortal C&C Music Factory repeatedly said, "Things that make you go, 'hmmm'."

I think it's interesting because it's part of a long-standing discussion about the exposure of younger pitchers, successful rehabilitation, contracts, and a novel problem given a team's presence in a pennant race. It isn't a Nats discussion, but a broader baseball issue.
