This is a new thing, a special concussion DL.

Who holds the record for most home runs for a team by players who spent their whole career with that team? See here

the article just refers to a team's all time home run leader- not whether or not an entire career was spent with one team- and whether that guy defines the franchise. So, does Nate Colbert define the Padres? and did you know Khalil Greene was in the SD top 10 all time HR hitters? yikes

Among other things it answers the question I posed.

Mike Schmidt.

K. Greene wasn't too shabby in San Diego. He had a couple of good seasons there before his mind melted.

As with the Brewers, this is another team record that will survive thanks to free agency. Finishing 2011 with 445, Albert Pujols would have wrested the lead from Stan the Man this season.

So how does this make you feel?

How Albert's 10-yr contract could've have affected the Cardinals ability to compete aside, I'm torn between being glad that the Man's record is safe for now to sad that El Hombre could've had his own statue rivaling Stan's outside of Busch.

Yeah. That's what I was hoping for as well. Though I'm glad he didn't break all Stan's records and then leave. Wouldn't be fitting.

It would have been neat to see He Who Shall Not Be Named break all of Stan's franchise records, and get a matching statue to go next to Stan's--but Stan's statue being alone in a place of honor is definitely the upside to #5's departure.

Anyway...

A.J. Pierzynski takes both third base and home after the A's fail to cover either on an infield grounder

http://deadspin.com/5934255/is-this-the ... -groundout

and this reminds Deadspin of the famous Ruben Rivera play

http://deadspin.com/5934464/important-t ... f-baseball

"That was the worst baserunning in the history of the game." Still funny.

If only they'd get a decent statue to replace it.

Well, there's that too. That statue is atrocious. I don't know what kind of low bidder they paid to make that but there has to be a sculptor somewhere in the greater St. Louis area that could make a Stan statue that doesn't make him look like a hunchback.
