That's good because you want hitters -- especially power hitters -- swinging at 2-0 and 3-1 pitches.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Yeah, I'm not too upset. Just seemed like, needing one run, they sure were swinging - a lot - on 2-0 and 3-1 offerings. I had mentioned it earlier in the thread and continued on.
Adams definitely wasn't alone in this regard.

I don't know if that's true. But, perhaps getting back to looking for a pitch and knocking the [expletive] out of it on this counts would be a good approach. If they were getting the pitches they were looking for, they sure missed a lot of them.dmarx114 wrote:The next phase in "Moneyball" is batters treating 3-1 and 2-0 counts like 3-0 counts, and taking these pitches.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Yeah, I'm not too upset. As for that Adams AB, I thought it was a good pitch to swing at. He just missed it. Didn't work out for the Cards last night, but a chance to take one today and still feel really good about how they're playing/pitching.

You want your hitters to get hits if they're swinging at those pitches. That's my point. They weren't. And, not only were they not, they weren't necessarily even making good contact.
Like I said, it's a small thing.

Of course. Batting averages for hitters when ahead in the count are much higher for a reason. That doesn't mean you should expect them to bat 1.000 in those situations.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Jay and Carpenter included?jagtrader wrote:That's good because you want hitters -- especially power hitters -- swinging at 2-0 and 3-1 pitches.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Yeah, I'm not too upset. Right. I never said or implied they should.jagtrader wrote:Of course. Batting averages for hitters when ahead in the count are much higher for a reason.
