not really...he says he doesn't know if he'd go to either place or not...

Source says SF, StL interest in Stanton is most intense, but whether Giancarlo goes either place is TBD

this hack from boston is basically saying stanton will not go, with nothing to back it up...

Even if the Red Sox have the pieces to trade for Giancarlo Stanton, there's a belief the Marlins slugger won't accept a trade to Boston. Or to St. Louis, for that matter. https://t.co/e5J6TpTuWv

there's no link to a gammons article there where he says anything other than "whether Giancarlo goes either place is TBD"

so basically it's some guy with that handle "anti_matheny" simply saying it himself and saying peter gammons said it.

after digging around, it's just as i expected...gammons never says that. here's the link to the article and what he says...

http://www.gammonsdaily.com/peter-gammons-gm-meetings-red-sox-off-season-options-and-more/

Quote:
After the MVP announcement, he, Ricky Nolasco and AJ Ramos will make their annual trip to Europe, and while media speculation can list St. Louis, San Francisco and Boston as most likely landing spots, each one of those teams would have to sell him, because there is a strong feeling among those who know Giancarlo that they’re not cities that fascinate him for different reasons.

never does gammons say "there's a belief the Marlins slugger won't accept a trade to Boston. Or to St. Louis, for that matter. ...never

it's just clickbait that this guy in boston is using to get people to read his article, and people like anti_matheny (lol nice handle) are also misquoting to tell people "look at me!"

I guess my question is kinda rhetorical, as if there are so few teams to really land Stanton, then why is it taking so long? It's not like they just started talking a few days ago about it. The only wrench getting thrown into the gears is his NTC, and whether he'll waive it to go to the teams that are offering the most. I have no idea, but I'm sure that's playing into this more than the trade offers...or ownership is using other teams as pace cars to drive the cost up to the team Stanton has waived his NTC for...my guess, LA.

Well, trades for guys like Stanton don't happen in September. And MLB frowns upon teams making major deals in October. Even then, teams will want to re-evaluate where their franchise stands as soon as their season ends, and they want to see how their prospects are going to do in the AFL to properly valuate them in trade talks, teams have to consider their 40-man for the upcoming Rule 5, the GM meetings are a launching point for updating discussions, etc...

Basically there are a lot of reasons the trade hasn't happened. Then you figure that even if there are so few teams... what are we talking about, 5 teams? Maybe 10? That's still a lot of negotiating, a lot of jockeying for position, a lot of talking to Stanton to see where he'll go, a lot of GMs who need to talk to owners because it's such a huge cash outlay... and don't forget, the Marlins just sold to a new ownership group and brought in a ton of new people in their front office. Whatever happened in July is less pertinent for them than it is with most other organizations, especially considering how big a deal Jeter's made about doing the old-school approach to things.

And we really don't know that there's only one team he's waived his NTC for. We don't know anything about it at all. It's all just speculation. Which isn't to say it's not true. It's just that Stanton himself hasn't let it be known where he'll go, not to the public. Not to us. All we have are a bunch of wild-ass rumors from columnists (which, by the way, even Goold doesn't know and isn't claiming to know).

I really don't get where you're getting that.
