Re: Brewers to erect statue of Selig
The man is nothing but a shill for the owners.
The money the teams made under his watch would have occurred anyway.
I'll never forgive him for not seeing that Buck O'Neill got into the HOF before he died, and then having him give a speech at the induction ceremony.

Maybe i dont know the whole story, but since when does Bud Selig have a say in who gets into the hall of fame? Wouldnt the veterans committee be in charge of that?spiritofstlouis wrote: I'll never forgive him for not seeing that Buck O'Neill got into the HOF before he died, and then having him give a speech at the induction ceremony.

It's worse than that - he *was* an owner, and as such, should have been ineligible for the commissioner's post.spiritofstlouis wrote:The man is nothing but a shill for the owners.

This may be the only way you'll ever see the words Selig and erect in the same sentence.

And based on this precedent, it's all but guaranteed that every future commissioner will also be either an owner or a hand-picked shill of the owners.Jmodene wrote:It's worse than that - he *was* an owner, and as such, should have been ineligible for the commissioner's post.spiritofstlouis wrote:The man is nothing but a shill for the owners.

He could have invoked " the best interest " of the game clause.Fan_In_NY wrote:Maybe i dont know the whole story, but since when does Bud Selig have a say in who gets into the hall of fame? O'Neill was one of the true ambassadors to the game, and was instrumental in the creation of the Negro League Hall of Fame.
The gentleman was humble and gracious, and everyone knew he was dying. He gave his entire life to the game and kind Bud could have acted, even if it was only to push his induction to the Veteran's Committee.
