The perks he received in Houston were ridiculous and it couldn't have gone over well in the locker room. He didn't have to travel with the team, practice with the team, and he only had to show up every 5 days. No matter how good the player is, that is never going to go over well with the team.

In my experience as a player, there would be lots of patience for special treatment for someone clearly better than everyone else, and clamoring to get or keep him.

Two common schools of thought: A --
Does he think he's better than me? He damn well should! Does he deserve stuff I don't? You betcha! Go get him!!

and B --
Who does he think he is? I hate the sumbich, he's a jerk. When's his next start, we need a big win! Go get em Rocket!

I hate Barry Bonds more than any other player in baseball. If we had signed him I would not have celebrated his 756th Home Run. I wouldn't have cared if he was discovered as having used steroids and banned from the game. If his bat in the lineup helped more than his heat hurt the team, I'd still cheer for my team.

It's not that I would disown the Cardinals as my baseball team. I just wouldn't watch many (if any) games during the player's stint on the team.

As much as anything, it would be my way of showing disapproval for the way the team is being run--that they would bring in a player I so despise. Once the player is gone, I'd be back (assuming another loathesome individual doesn't take his place).

I don't like him, but if we signed him (ha!), I think I would be very excited to see him start a game here. Strange huh?

Not really. The is probably only one or two hitters I'd rather see behind Pujols. A-Rod, Cabrera, maybe Morneau and Mauer. Maybe Howard just because he can mash, but 100+k's don't interest me that much. Well I guess I should say there are 4 or 5 I'd rather see behind him. But they weren't free agents.

I just can't believe Popeye you'd disapprove of a move that helped the team just because of personal feelings. Now if clubhouse chemistry suffered, or the media attention to the team distracted the players and were detremental to our pursuit of another title I too would be disappointed.

Like fulldeck said, as long as they don't give him the lame perks the Stros give him...Sign him up! I don't care what they spend because they have tons left over. 1% chance this happens.

On ESPN radio they mentioned he has some sort of 10-year "exclusive service contract" with the Astros. They insinuated it limited him to Houston being the only NL team he could sign with.

I'm sure it would help the team win.

But winning alone doesn't make me a fan of baseball, and of the Cardinals. I don't want our team picking up world-class a-holes just to win a few more games. Goes against the core values of the team.
