Now the media and Yankees fans can blame him when their A-Rod-less team doesn't make the playoffs next year.

So are Pettitte, Mariano and Posada fans of Girardi, or were they wanting Mattingly?

Imagine losing Torre, A-Rod, Pettitte, Mariano and Posada. Granted, they won't lose all of those, but I could see one or two of those other three that are left being courted strong enough by another team to leave the Yanks.

And this hiring shouldn't really surprise anyone.

This is funny.
Playing career: Spent parts of 15 seasons in majors with Chicago Cubs, Colorado, St. Louis and New York Yankees. Won three World Series titles with Yankees (1996, 1998-99). He hit .267 and had 1,100 career hits in 1,277 career games. Retired in 2002.
By the looks of his play in 2003 with the Cardinals, he might as well have retired I guess.

Girardi is Dustyish with his approach to young pitchers. Hughes might be in for trouble.

DID YOU KNOW?

Clemens is 2 years older than Girardi.

Yankees are a mess right now. Will those Yankee superstars ever listen to Girardi? This is going to be fun

Girardi gets fired from the Marlins despite being manager of the year because he constantly argued/stood up to ownership...so the Steinbrenner clan hiring him makes a LOT of sense.

I see this ending badly after 2 seasons or less.

I think he'll do fine there. But even if it goes badly, the number 2 guy is sitting on the bench already.

I wonder if he's ok with this. He basically just got passed over.

I read the Steinbrenner's preferred Mattingly while the "baseball people" wanted Girardi.
