Rob Neyer's NL Central "comments"
From an ESPN chat. I was out of town on business all last week, so that's why there were no "comments". But I'm back all this week and next!

===============
A Cardinals fan asked Neyer's opinion of the Cards potential decision to have Rasmus jump from AA to MLB. This fan wondered if such a move would be beneficial or detrimental.
Neyer said each player is different, but says many prospects have been able to make that leap. He specifically points out Beltran.
--------------------------
(Apparently Neyer must have debated the merits of Fenway vs. Wrigley somewhere.) An upset cubs fan takes issue with Neyer's statement that cub fans are only at home games to party. This fan says with their recent good play (ignore the playoffs), the "passion" level is up.
Rob says the last time he was there was probably 2002. He wonders how much has really changed in 5 years. He also states he wasn't grouping all Wrigley fans; he just thinks the number of "drunken louts" is generally higher at Clark and Addison than at Fenway.
--------------------------
Another cubs fan comes to his compatriots' defense, stating that drunkeness does not always imply ignorance. He also says that the pilgrims from far away lands just want to get drunk. (But where would they get that idea in the 1st place?)
Mr. Neyer cries, "not germane". The question that started the debate was which stadium was a better place to watch a game. Rob thinks hearing "vile obscenities" from your row neighbor all night diminishes the experience, and where the loud-mouth resides is irrelevant.
--------------------------
A Brewers fan wanted to know if the Brewers can win the NL Central.
Neyer said he likes the signing of Mike Cameron and sees no reason why the Brew Crew can't fight for the division title again.
--------------------------
A Reds fan asked Rob his opinion of the Affeldt signing and where Jeremy might provide the most benefit to CIN.
Rob doesn't think Affeldt will excel as a starter, as he has watched Jeremy falter numerous times with the Royals. But, Neyer "has been shocked before".

If Rasmus turns out to make the leap like Beltran, chances are that I'd soil myself.

Thanks Mike!!

I'd have to say the atmospheres are very similar at Wrigley and Fenway.....Wrigley does have much crappier views, which I'm sure is why many people get drunk. My seats at a Cards-Cubs game many moons ago only allowed me to see the infield and a small part of the outfield....I remember losing sight of Brian Jordan as he ran back to the wall to catch a ball. I had to go by crowd reaction.....
Fenway, as I recall, had very small seats and teeny-weeny beers that cost something like a trazillion dollars. The bathrooms at both stadiums are just plain awful. The views at Fenway were great.....
Plenty of drunk obnoxious fans at Fenway, too, though.......well, at any stadium for that matter!

Really? I thought the Fenway crowd was much closer to Cardinal fans in terms of being into the actual game than a typical Wrigley crowd. Both atmospheres are great, but I thought Wrigley was a little more general party vs Fenway being totally about the game. And yes the seats and aisles are very small at Fenway, but the bathrooms were better than at B3. I think they did alot of remodeling recently, I'm wondering if you were there pre- remodeling or something. But seriuosly, cleanest bathrooms I have ever been at in a ballpark.Simbagal23 wrote:I'd have to say the atmospheres are very similar at Wrigley and Fenway.....Wrigley does have much crappier views, which I'm sure is why many people get drunk. Wrigley is so awesome though as well, even though I liked Fenway a little better. A Card/Cub game at Wrigley is something every Cardinal fan should do at least once in their life.

I went to a couple of games at Fenway, not sure if it was pre-remodel (I'll have to check the internet) but the bathrooms were awful, not as bad as Wrigley but sill pretty bad. The Wrigley atmosphere was more like a party, however, it was a weekend Cards-Cubs game. While the Cards-Sox game I attended was a week night, so pretty tame. I guess when I say atmosphere, I really mean the old ballpark, packed stadium...and general buzz in the air. Both sets of fans truly love their teams.....had I been to a Yanks-Sox game, I'm sure it would have been MUCH different.jim wrote:Really? I have always considered Wrigley to be the world's biggest bar. There just happens to be a baseball game going on in the courtyard every time I go there.
