Manageable or not I would rather have him sit out the year and be back 100% and not have the problem again.(< though it could arise)
It sounds selfish of us to want him to play in pain another 10 years.

If we're pretty much out of it by the All-Star Break he may consider it then.Fat Strat wrote:If the Cards are well out of it on August 1st, Pujols should strongly consider having surgery. That would put him back ready for game action on April 1st of 09.

He's being paid like 50 gazillion dollars to play a game. It's not selfish for us to want ot pay money to see the guy play.Windy City Flyer wrote:Manageable or not I would rather have him sit out the year and be back 100% and not have the problem again.(< though it could arise)

I think folks are over analyzing the situation. He doesn't need surgery now, so he shouldn't have surgery. If he blows it out, then he will get surgery. If he can't work through the pain, he will get surgery.
Otherwise - Play Ball!

Re: Pujols and Surgery
I don't know that the consensus is that he doesn't "need" surgery. I think it's that he can try to manage it or he can get it fixed. This won't heal. He'll either live through it, blow out the tiny shred that sounds like it's still intact, or have the surgery because he can't live through it.
There were two options and they went with the option that gets him on the field this year. I still think the chances he will need surgery at some point are pretty high.
<leroy>This is Palletta we're talking about.</leroy> Seriously, though, I'd like to hear Andrews speak on it himself rather than second hand.

Re: Pujols and Surgery
Say the Cards are crap this year, but next year everyone develops as planned, pick up a couple good free agents and are legitimate contenders.... then come August.... SNAP...
I wish he would have had the surgery the day after they were eliminated in 2007.
But I do understand why he didn't.
