Oh, I believe that the tandem of ToneDunc can be an unforgiving one that will drive you to Canada, but Bernie is such a freaking dolt sometimes. Is the organization cringing over Colby's Dad? Yeah, I'm sure. But the way Bernie is phrasing it makes it seem like Colby's days are numbered in the organization. As long as he isn't stabbing an ex-girlfriend, dealing cocaine or funneling money to Hezbollah, stop making it sound like Mozeliak is going to orchestrate a plan to unceremoniously dump the kid.

I absolutely loathe his cryptic [expletive].

I agree, until I see Mr Rasmus in an interview and saying these things in person, I just don't believe it.

Well Colby's dad is at it again...

On the Cardinals forum on scout.com, they have a thread titled "2009 Community Top 50 Prospects List" where they determine the Cardinals top prospects. Well one gentleman posted this...

Colby's dad responded...

Quote:
Sonny Jim, If you only knew. Colby doesn't know this message board exists first off. I'm afraid young Mr. Rasmus is going to ruffle some feathers before all is said and done on his own accord and dad won't try to disuade him one iota(like he has in the past). Nope, This year has transformed Colby into a different dude from what I heard on the ride home from Memphis last night. No waffling, no indecision, he knows what he is and isn't gonna do. No more political correctness. It sounded scary in a good way. I think he knows he has got to hit his way out of AAA and has finally learned that team starts in the majors. It is all about the I in the minors. I've always said you learn more from failure than success and it sounds like he has learned which is good.

I don't tell Colby the things I write on here, I just tell him how good he is when we speak.

For the record, I also like Perez in the one hole. Same as Phil.

More replies in the same thread...

If Perez is no longer a rookie, then I vote Wallace. Drafted this year and already tearing up AA is pretty darn skippy in my book. He may be in the OF in St. Louis next September. This is the player who may displace Skip Schumaker this next year.

Quote:
I am not optimistic at this point in time that Colby will ever be cemented into a lineup in St. Louis because he just hit .250 in AAA, which is not very good by the way. :P I have posted my thoughts numerous times that I think the current group of outfielders are really good baseball players and that those players could be in St. Louis for many years blocking Colby from ever playing in St. Louis. They are better than he is right now and may continue to be in the years to come but for Colby to dislodge any one of them(and Skip is the only one who can be dislodged) he will have to play above his head IMO because TLR will never put him in the lineup if he is not way better than what is already there.

Look at who's in St. Louis and who's on the way. Daryl Jones, Jay, Robinson, Wallace, Freese, Craig are all going to be playing OF next year. I still believe Colby is the best trade chip that can be traded so I still think the odds are Colby is traded is TLR stays.

But your post was infering that Colby would not be signing a long term contract with St. Louis because he was mad with the organization. Well he never told me he was mad with anybody but himself. I get the impression he was indecisive on many things he did this year and unsure of himself. I think he finally understands what he needs to do and will not be swayed from what he believes he needs to do to be ready to hit in AAA. He does not believe he has a chance to make the team out of Spring training(geez, finally) and knows he will have to prove himself in AAA if he is ever to touch foot in the big leagues. This is a major upgrade in his thinking process IMO because he thought Spring training numbers would dictate his making the team this year and he never had a chance. He understands this now, which is good. This way he can focus on hitting in AAA and not worry about Spring training next year, heck, I wish they wouldn't even let him in big league camp, until he earned it.

I believe TLR to be one of the smartest baseball people who is managing in the Majors if not the smartest.

The problems with me posting is that I don't have the time to write and expain my thoughts probably as thoroughly as I need to to so I just put snippets of what I think and then that leaves those baseball minds of cardinal fans everywhere jumping across the entire spectum of what I meant by those comments.

I don't think TLR is biased against Colby at all. I believe Tony to be extremely supportive of the guys he manages and Skip, Ryan, and Rick are the outfielders who Tony will support to the nth degree, as he should. I do believe Tony didn't appreciate the way the media handed the CF job to Colby this past off season, as TLR had Rick Ankiel penciled in that position all along and I believe Tony felt like Rick was slighted by all of those stories about Colby being the second coming. Tony is the ultimate professional and would never mistreat anyone because of something so silly but he will take every chance to tell you young Colby Rasmus hasn't earned anything to this point and that his current group of guys have earned something. I always go back to this and it is my belief, Colby is not better than the players patrolling the OF in St. Louis so he should not be playing in front of them but he could be playing in another organization. It will be extremely hard for Colby to play in St. Louis because all things being equal, TLR will go with that older player. Colby would have to be way better to replace one of those guys.

Now as a cardinal fan you don't care how long he stays in AAA because you consider arbitration, free agency, whose producing at the major league level in front of him, and the whole lot of money mumbo jumbo but always understand, those issues don't matter to a players family. I see players Colby has played with for years, who are not near as good as he is but who are getting September callups, or already in the major leagues with other organizations.

TLR is not holding Colby Rasmus back and don't ever think I believe that.

This all just seems a little odd and unsettling to me. The first post says Colby is going to "ruffle some feathers" and he knows what he is gonna do and not do? Umm ok. And the last two posts are just weird. Does he really think that Colby is not good enough to replace Shumaker next year?

The thread is here http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=321&f=2089&t=2905527&p=1 if you want to take a read. Kind of interesting/weird stuff.

Doesn't Mo control who comes up and who is sent down? or is that TLR?

It's just Colby's dad being Colby's dad (manny being manny???)

I put no stock into anything that man says. He may know what Colby is really thinking and he may not. Colby may hate TLR, and he may just be bummed that Jay Bruce is in the Majors and he isn't yet. I'll let Colby's actions speak for Colby and Colby's dad can just keep flapping his jaw.

No worries guys. If Z gives us a bad start, we still have Randy Wells, Tom Gorzelanny and Carlos Silva ready to go later in the week. That's the beauty of having a rotation that goes 5 deep.

I actually like what Colby's dad is saying here and in many ways, I think he's right. After all, Colby is going to have to hit his way out of AAA. He needs to do whatever he needs to do to get his hitting in order so he can be better than Skip, Ank, or Ludwick. I also think that Colby's dad is right about the three OF'ers we have being better than Colby right now. It's true. The worst of them, Skip, is having a pretty darn good season. Personally, I would be pretty happy with Colby if he posted a 107 OPS+ next year, especially when you consider the current contributions of other top prospects, Gordon and Bruce.

It sounds like Colby might finally be figuring it out and maturing. I hope that carries over into ST and then into '09. If Rasmus comes out raking like he's capable of, no one will be able to keep him out of StL. And as Mr. Rasmus suggests, it's not like TLR doesn't want Colby to succeed.
