I realize that AK requested a trade and isn't happy with his playing time, etc. but that seems like the most friendly budget solution, assuming of course that we could find a starting 2nd baseman. Actually, I wouldn't have any problem with the Cards signing Lopez and rotating AK and Lopez in and out of 2nd base, while still letting Lopez roam the rest of the inf as needed.
Where else would he play as a super sub? If we keep him, I say we start him at 2b
Plus Kennedy has made it known that he doesn't feel that he is deserving or can perform well in a reserve role.

I'd still rather just use Brendan Ryan as the backup MI, and maybe platoon him with Kennedy. He handles the bat alright, runs well and plays good defense all over the infield. There's just not much of a drop from him to Miles offensively (he's better according to Marcel, but that's not the best thing to use with Ryan obviously) and if you're going to roll with Kennedy, it'd be nice to take LaRussa's pet out of the equation.

I'd rather see a broomstick than Year No. 4 of Aaron Miles.

Greene -3.3

While that hardly ranks him as a defensive disaster, it's sobering if you think plus defense is a big part of the value he provides. Interestingly, Renteria ranks a 2.2 and was just above average last year by UZR. Not sure I believe that.

Those are different numbers then you find in the UZR0307 spreadsheet, if I'm looking at this correctly. Wonder what the deal is.

fangraphs is sick. Having UZR and wOBA numbers on the same page is just terrific.

That is pretty crazy, with Greene being out on the west coast, I never really watched him much, but it always seemed like there was a lot of hype around his glove. Maybe this is part of the reason why San Diego was eager to deal a young slugging short stop?

Does a UZR point translate into WARP in some way?

From fangraph's glossary:
UZR (ultimate zone rating): The number of runs above or below average a fielder is in both range runs and error runs combined.

UZR/150 (ultimate zone rate per 150 games): The number of runs above or below average a fielder is, per 150 defensive games.
