Speaking of professors, Jim Brosnan's old book, "The Long Season", is back in print. It's a book about the 1959 season, when he started with the Cards and wound up with Cincinnati. Among the more surprising things is that Bing Devine doesn't come off as a particularly good guy in the book.
Brosnan wrote a second book, "The Pennant Race", about the 1961 season, and then was pretty much blackballed from baseball, which didn't like him writing at all. Sort of an early-day Bouton.
