I don't get the love for Baldelli. At all.

he's always been a very solid glove in center and hits lefties decently (.784 OPS last year against lefties) and should be cheap

plus, after missing so much time due to health and being such a highly touted prospect before hand, he seems like a good candidate to break out and be a solid player

What he said. ^

Baldelli's career OPS vs. LHP is .831, he's a plus defender in CF and his 2009 salary was just $500,000. For $1M or less, I think he'd be a good acquisition.

I wouldn't want both Lopez and Lugo on the squad, and I'd rather have the guy making the minimum. Plus, I want Freese to get a real opportunity to show us what he's got.

Smoltz and Calero still interest me.

I've always liked Baldelli, plus glove in center and an OPS over .800 against lefties, what more do we want out of a cheapo bench guy? Though wasn't his issue chronic fatigue or something along that line, is that something that really goes away?

I think they diagnosed him with some condition that would never go away, but I think they determined it was misdiagnosed?

I believe I read that somewhere, as well. Although, I'm having a little trouble finding a link that states that specifically.

The love for Baldelli is people who still think he's going to make good on the DiMaggio comparisons.

The like for Baldelli is that he's a useful player in a limited role, as above.

Mozeliak brought up Lopez on the radio this morning as someone who might be in the mix this year as a super utility guy. Seemed odd to do so but he did. Said they had talked but hadn't had a meeting of the minds.

No offense but I'd rather take the risk and go with Craig over Baldelli. Sure Baldelli has proved he's a major league player, but he's about as good of a player now as he's ever going to be. The upside of Craig is much higher and in the long run can get more out of Craig. Especially since we'll have control of Craig's career for the next 5 years. Craig could potentially be a 30 HR, 90+ RBI guy when at most Baldelli is a solid bench player and 4th Outfielder.
