Which is more likely, Jeter or Pujols w/ a new team?
Future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter in a different uniform or future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols in a different uniform?
Both are free agents soon--Jeter next year and Pujols in 2012. Both are icons in their city (and baseball as a whole). Both came up through their team's system. Both have won a world series. Both have played a pivotal role in their team's success over their career.
I say Pujols in a different uniform is more likely given how much it's gonna take to sign him. The yanks can afford to to re-sign their fan favorite whereas the cards may not be able to re-sign Pujols.

Re: Which is a more likely scenario...?
Jeter won't possibly go in as anything other than a Yankee...even if he switches teams after this year.

I don't get how the Cardinals expect to re-sign Pujols if they apparently are serious about their budget (and I see no reason for them to trade Ludwick if they weren't serious) and if Pujols is serious about getting paid at least close to market value (25 mil min based off what Howard got). And, if they do, obviously they don't know how to build a stars and scrubs team picking up two of the worst players in the league (Miles and Feliz) while already employing everyday offensive [expletive] (skip, ryan, molina and lopez).

They traded Ludwick probably to clear payroll and obtain a starter whose been pretty solid so far.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:I don't get how the Cardinals expect to re-sign Pujols if they apparently are serious about their budget (and I see no reason for them to trade Ludwick if they weren't serious)
By trading Ludwick for Jay, you can tack Ludwick's salary on to Albert's to get to the $25M without moving payroll an inch.and if Pujols is serious about getting paid at least close to market value (25 mil min based off what Howard got).
Well we disagree here, had Freese not gotten injured Feliz wouldn't have been needed. Lopez has been bad lately, but isn't terrible in his career and is a great Util IF to have - he means no Miles. Ryan is there for defensive reasons, but stands out cause Flip, Feliz and Skip haven't hit as well as they should. Skip isn't an 800 OPS hitter they thought he was when he moved to 2B last year. The team was built just fine, we're 4 games under our pythag. That would put us 2 games out of first right now behind an extremely surprising Reds team. When you win ~90 games I think you've done a pretty damn good job putting a team together. And, if they do, obviously they don't know how to build a stars and scrubs team picking up two of the worst players in the league (Miles and Feliz) while already employing everyday offensive [expletive] (skip, ryan, molina and lopez).

I was ranting.... naturally there's going to be some irrational thoughts. No need to get all up in arms about it. Really, I'm just pissed that they have so much talent and are not going to make the playoffs and it shows up in all topics.vinsanity wrote:Well we disagree here, had Freese not gotten injured Feliz wouldn't have been needed. To me this isn't even a question at all.
The chances of Pujols signing with a new team are unlikely, but it's certainly possible. I'd say it's a 30% chance (completely arbitrary guess there).
However, the chances of Jeter bolting to a new team are literally 0%. The Yanks want to retain him. Jeter wants to say. Payroll is a non-issue. He will stay. Guaranteed. To me it's basically implausible.

I live in NY, and Jeter resigning isn't as much as a forgone conclusion as y'all seem to make it out to be. While, I'd be surprised he signed with another team, I don't think it's at all outside the realm of possibilities.

Well even if Jeter bolts, there's 0 chance he does enough to go in wearing that hat. It'd be like Wade Boggs wanting to go in as a Devil ray.Kyle wrote:To me this isn't even a question at all.

He spent 15? years in NY and even 5 stellar years elsewhere won't be enough to swing it. I literally don't think it's possible he'd go in wearing any other hat.
If Albert left, hit his 500th, 600th and maybe 700th wins a ring, maybe a TC, a few MVP's he'd likely go in for that team.

I have no idea, nor do I care, about Jeter's future. I think the odds are against Pujols re-signing with the Cardinals. He seems the obvious answer to this question.
