Good Read on Opening Day (Night)

Post by Cole Burns »

What's the Next Big Idea in Baseball?

Referenced by Goold in his daily 10 today, it hits on recent past (20 years ago it was retro stadiums, 10 years ago it was Money Ball). Highlights the Rays and other smaller market teams and how they're positioning themselves for future success. Suggestions are developing better programs to keep players healthy, striking while the iron is hot on cable contracts, and advanced scouting to include character study.

Really the next big idea in baseball is the whole ballpark village concept. I fully expect 50% of teams to have villages built or under construction with another 25% in development by 2022, maybe 2025. If you go out further I bet 2050 is centered around new advanced, high capacity multipurpose stadiums that transform seamlessly between sports, in so much as you couldn't tell if its primary focus was one or the other.
