Josh Lucas bailed the Athletics out in a big way on Friday, striking out seven over 3 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.
Lucas was pressed into emergency action after Brett Anderson went down with an injury while throwing his warmup pitches prior to the second inning. The right-hander was dominant, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out seven of the 14 hitters that he faced. The only damage against him came on an RBI single by Giovanni Urshela, the final batter he faced. Unfortunately for him, he's likely to get sent back to Triple-A in favor of a fresh arm now.

Pete Kozma got DFA'd.
In other news, Pete Kozma was on a major league roster in 2018.

We simply must admire BFF Mabry's work with Cardinal hitters.

Re: Former Cardinals Watch
Mike Leake pitched well again Thursday, allowing two runs over eight-plus innings in a win over the Rays.
Leake cruised for eight innings, yielding seven hits and a walk but giving up only a solo homer in the runs column, but his night was done after a leadoff double in the ninth. Things got shaky from there -- stand-in closer Alex Colome allowed that inherited run and two more to score, threatening to surrender Leake's win -- but the M's held on to help him improve to 6-3 on the year. The right-hander has now turned in three consecutive starts of seven or more innings with two or fewer runs allowed, and he hasn't lost a start since May 4. Leake is capable of such runs when his sinker is on, and he's a streaming option when he's going like this. He'll carry a 4.46 ERA and 1.28 WHIP into Tuesday's start against the Angels.

Jaime Garcia limited the Orioles to one run over six innings in taking a no-decision Thursday.
Garcia scattered four hits and walked three while striking out six in the good outing. Unfortunately for the southpaw, his counterpart, David Hess, was equally as good, and neither ended up factoring in the decision. That leaves Garcia's record at 2-4 with a 5.57 ERA through 11 starts overall. Garcia has been inconsistent from the jump and, despite the soft opponent, can't be trusted Tuesday against the Rays.

Randal Grichuk went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored as the Blue Jays came back to beat the Orioles 5-4 in 10 innings Thursday.
The Jays needed a three-run ninth to get the game to extras, and Grichuk played a starring role. With two on and one out, his second double of the game -- a lined shot to right field -- plated two, and Grichuk later came around to score the game-tying run to prolong the contest. In five games since returning from a month-long stay on the disabled list for a sprained PCL in his right knee, the 26-year-old is 5-for-16 with three doubles, a homer and five RBI. When healthy he can be a potent offensive player, and he's worth watching as he continues to round into form.

Our favorite ex player Heyward looking like the player we once knew. Heating up and batting .270 and climbing every game. I had a feeling he wouldn’t repeat last couple years. Hopefully he goes back to hitting .230 so they can regreat the contract

A two-fer:
Albert Pujols collected his 1,952nd career RBI in the first inning of the Angels' series finale against the Twins on Sunday at Target Field, passing Stan Musial for sole possession of sixth place on the all-time list.
