And he only gets that if he is a 40/40 guy. It's a tough market out there.

10 dark-horse MVP candidates for 2019

Go Tommy go!
Tommy Pham, OF, Rays
After years of never quite getting his shot, Pham broke through in 2017, having one of the best seasons in baseball and even receiving MVP votes despite not being called up until May. The Cardinals, clearing up an outfield logjam, traded him in July, and something amazing happened: Pham was even better for the Rays than he was for the Cardinals in 2017, putting up a .343/.448/.622 line in 39 games. Those are MVP numbers right there, and while Pham has always struggled with injuries, if he can stay healthy and in the middle of the lineup for a Rays team that has 90-win potential, he could be seen as the driver of a surprise contender.

Tommy Pham will have his arbitration hearing with the Rays on Monday.
Pham requested $4.1 million and was offered $3.5 million by the Rays when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. Following Monday's hearing, the arbitration panel will decide on one salary or the other for 2019. Pham thrived following last season's trade from the Cardinals, batting .343/.448/.622 over 39 games.
The Rays would really go to an arb hearing over $600k, and risk souring their relationship with an extremely talented and affordable player? What a cheap ass franchise.

The real problem is that the Rays wanted to pay him that 600k in stadium concession vouchers and Pham is insisting on cash.

In other words, about fifteen beers and seven hot dogs.

Kind of like how the St. Louis Cardinals only gave him a 25k raise because he declined a 2 year deal and then traded him.
