I think there was a large segment that expected him to approximate Jim Edmonds' contribution, which he'd do for a week-long stretch every now and then. The idea that this had anything to do with his struggles last year or the front office's willingness to get rid of him is ridiculous. The only person these unreasonable expectations had any relevance to was the old man who took to the message boards to vicariously live through his son when his overbearing presence became unwelcome in the real world.

I think maybe some saw that as his ceiling and I remember being slightly disappointed that he didn't steal more, but I thought I always heard 20/20 hitter with Strong Arm/Good Glove.

Rasmus' was a year younger than Edmonds when he came up and seems to have a little less power, but it seems his sophomore season compares well to Edmonds. It seems like he has the talent to be that .850-900 OPS plus+defender which would be just a step down from Edmonds' career.

But then criticizes TLR for being too critical while Farrell is more positive. Kinda seems like his dad was fairly critical all along as well.

Also Rasmus' power numbers are up, but he is playing in a ballpark that is a lot easier to hit HRs. Of his 10 HRs, 9 have been in home run havens (Tor, Tex, CHW, KC). Obviously he can only hit where he is playing but I wonder if that has helped his numbers a bit. And maybe I am just bitter in that i drafted him in fantasy leagues and gave up on him too quick when he had a horrendous first 6 weeks.

I don't think anyone expected Rasmus to even sniff Pujols production levels.

I wanted Rasmus to be a .850/120 OPS+ guy with above average defense that the team could slot in the #2 spot for 4-5 years on the cheap. Basically I expected him to be a slightly better version of what Jon Jay has provided.

Colby is still so young that he could grow into an Edmonds-type of producer. But his head seems confused and his dad is such a meddler that I wonder if he'll ever get past mental puberty.

I would have been happy if Rasmus had at least been better (or maybe more consistent) than Rick Ankiel.

What Tony Rasmus doesn't mention is that he'd been lobbying, on the forums, for Colby to be traded as long ago as the spring of 2008, when Colby didn't make the team out of ST after his 2007 season in AA. It didn't help, too, that Colby basically sulked at Memphis for a good month or two before he finally started playing for real - and then promptly got hurt.

His batting stance looks different; I think he's standing right on top of the plate. Anyway the second homer was on a pitch inside, which he yanked right down the line. I don't know if this is random noise, or if he's messed up everybody's scouting report on him, or if the stance change genuinely closed a hole in his swing, but if he can stand on top of the plate and still get around on an inside Axford fastball like that consistently, then he finally will live up to the hype.
