Ottavino, we hardly knew yo.
rotoworld:
"Rockies claimed RHP Adam Ottavino off waivers from the Cardinals; optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
That didn't take long. Ottavino was pushed off the Cards' 40-man roster on Tuesday afternoon, but found a new home within hours. He had a 4.85 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 120/71 K/BB ratio in 141 innings last year at Triple-A. "

Somewhat disappointing. A few years ago I held out hope that he might be able to salvage himself as a reliever if he failed as a starter. Some guys are just never able to harness their stuff. He had great velocity, but really crappy command/control.

Surprised Luhnow in Houston passed on him.

Wait, crappy command or crappy control? For full credit, please show your work.

There was an interview with him right? Another cursed one...Never had the control to be a MLB pitcher.

I know Future Redbirds had an interview with him. He seemed really cocky with his answers in it, and I found out that apparently his dad was an actor.

How is the waiver order determined at the beginning of the season? Is it based on last year's record?

Yes, until the All-Star break, I believe, when they start using the current year's standings instead.
Houston, Chicago, San Diego, Florida, and Pittsburgh all had worse records in 2011 than did Colorado - which means they all passed on Ottavino before the Rockies put in their claim.
If Otto had to pass through the AL as well, four AL teams also had worse records than the Rox - Minnesota, Seattle, Baltimore, and Kansas City.

Ha... I don't really know, since he seemed to get crushed fairly often, which would indicate bad command. But, he also walks everyone, so that would indicate bad control. So, I guess it was both.

Too bad that baseball is no longer part of the Olympic games, he could've played for Italy again.
