How about the quiche, brie, arugula, hummus, cous-cous, and chardonnay team?

Can you really put Albert on that list? He jogs out every infield hit, if he hits a pop fly he watches it like he hit it to the next county. No doubt he plays hard when he has to, but the all hard hat lunch pail team? nah no way.

I'm glad it only took 1 post to mention this.....saved me the trouble.

We could also point out the 9th inning of game 2 in last year's World Series.

I'm not sure St. Louis ever saw a more "Lunch pail" gamer than Mr. David Eckstein. Talk about getting the most out of your talent, he was the anti-Colby.

I still remember him fondly for grinding out that single against Brad Lidge with two out in the 9th. Without him, Mr. Pujols doesn't get the opportunity to destroy Lidge.

Pujols is as fierce competitor as can be found in baseball, he will take the extra base (almost to a fault) and never have I seen a star MLB 1B trail the runner to 2B like Pujols did EVERY SINGLE TIME. On routine grounders he didn't bust his ass, true. But when it mattered I don't think anyone wanted as bad as he did, fought as hard for it, and did whatever he could to get it.

That's my take on Pujols. He's my guy at 1B.

Eckstein of course is one of the greats. My all-time Cardinal team would be:

C - Ted Simmons
1B - Albert Pujols
2B - Mike Tyson
SS - David Eckstein
3B - Scott Rolen
LF - Lou Brock (I guess ... I can't think of any true grinder)
CF - Willie McGee (Jon Jay is a good backup)
RF - Stan Musial.
P - Bob Gibson
