He also gave up three runs and took the loss. Not bad for an ace/cy young finalist without the entire nation of Japan resting on his shoulders, and a press box with a small army of reporters waiting for.
In his much anticipated major league debut, he fought thru early struggles, overcame a lot of pressure and anxiety and showed his team/fans hope for the future. And if the two bloop hits would have found leather instead of grass it's a different outing altogether. His first two innings werent great. His effort to stay with it and fight thru it and shut them down and get the win, is one I stand and applaud. And he hit b.ryan with a pitch. What more could you want.
