RBI single for Pujols with 1 out, and he gets caught in a rundown between 1st and 2nd. There is a kid at the game 3 rows back of the Angels dugout decked out in Cardinal gear.

A's beat the Royals 5-4 in 12 innings. Broxton hit Cespedes to load the bases, and then hit Gomes to force in the winning run.

It's not often that a baseball game ends with just one person being hit by a baseball, of course. The Baseball Reference Play Index counts only 56 previous instances since 1948 that a game ended with a hit by pitch. Of those 56, only one ended with a pitcher hitting two straight batters. That game happened on Sept. 2, 1966 when Baltimore's Stu Miller hit Chicago's Al Weis and Tommie Agee to hand the White Sox a win.

LHP Madison Bumgarner will start Thursday's series finale against ... 49-year-old Jamie Moyer, who's 26 years and 256 days older than Bumgarner. That's the biggest difference between opposing starting pitchers since Sept. 25, 1965, when Bill Monbouquette of Boston (29 years, 45 days) opposed Satchel Paige of the Kansas City A's (59 years, 80 days). Difference: 30 years, 35 days.

I thought that was a selfish play on Pujols' part. You will see that as a good piece of baserunning with 2 outs and a good shot at getting the guy at the plate - give them an out right in front of their eyes to tempt them to cut the throw off. You trade an out for a run.

But not with 1 out, and not with a guy from 3rd that looked to me like he was going to score regardless. The reason I say it's selfish is because up to that point Albert had 1 RBI. I have no way to prove this, but I think he did what he did to make sure he got the RBI. He didn't need to do that, it was a bad baserunning decision.
