I was too wrapped up to come on here and complain, but yeah, Freese seriously got [expletive] by the ump there. Unfortunately, he should have known what was coming:

We're entering a new deadball era because of the ridiculous strike zone that umpires are getting away with thus far this season.

It seems like the Cardinals rarely complete these come from behind victories, but always lose in this fashion. (Regular season)

As sucky as some of these close losses have been, and obviously it's no consolation, but the Cardinals are a couple of semi-competent umpiring calls from 16 wins right now.

This loss is not on the umpires. The Cardinals played like [expletive].

Frustrating loss.....I feel like the Cards should be about 17-5 instead of 14-8.

You're close - Pythag, before today, had them at 16-5 instead of 14-7; those two blown games to the Cubs, I presume.

In the meantime, Greene made the decision on who to send down this week when Craig comes back a lot easier.

Greene is out of options, so unless the club releases him I doubt he's going back down.

Beat me to it. I still think it will be Shane Robinson. Wouldn't shock me if it's Komatsu. It's awfully hard to hang on to a Rule 5 guy when you're trying to contend.

What exactly is the timing involved? Is Craig coming back first, or is Berkman?

Either way, I suspect Carpenter is the one going down first - especially if Craig comes back, because Carp becomes rather superfluous. When Berkman comes back, we then have to decide between Robinson - who's hitting better and is a RH center field option - and Komatsu, who's not hitting as well but has that Rule 5 thing going. Since Robinson has options, it could very well be him.

But I do have the feeling that Greene is not long for this ballclub. Maybe they'll offer *him* to Washington so we can keep Komatsu. ;)

Craig will be back on Tuesday (or so). Berkman later. And the guys during the broadcast implied that when he came back he might split time with Carpenter at first. Can't split time with him if he's not here.

I really don't think that Greene will get released. In fact, I would be shocked if he was. He's a backup infielder. And really, he provides pretty good value in that role.
