Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal ·

Source: #Pirates send Polanco to AAA. No word yet on corresponding move. Figures to be short-term demotion; rosters expand Monday.

You mean even the best of prospects struggle? Can't be.

Molina may not go out on a rehab assignment. The Cardinals have considered both of those options -- have him sneak away quickly for some of the final games on Memphis' schedule or not go at all and just create sim games for him before games, as they did for Allen Craig before the World Series last fall. The idea there would be that once Molina feels healthy and ready to hit he'll be back in the lineup to catch and get his timing and whatnot on the job. Wacha is still trending toward mid-September. This week will add clarity to both of their timetables.

Hey Derrick, whats the latest projections for Molina's return, will he rehab soon? Also, any word on Wacha plan? Enjoy the chats.

Speaking of Lyons. He's back. Cardinals promote him this morning.
by Derrick Goold 10:26 AM

Cardinals recalled LHP Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis.
Lyons will pitch out of the bullpen initially but could make a spot start in Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs. The 26-year-old left-hander owns a 5.00 ERA and 67/25 K/BB ratio in 81 career major league innings.
Aug 25 - 11:28 AM

Cardinas optioned INF Greg Garcia to Triple-A Memphis.
Garcia did not start a game in his week-long stay with the big league club. He will be back up when rosters expand in September to function as middle infield depth.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are 39-26 at home this season and are solid favorites to beat the St. Louis Cardinals who are 31-33 on the road this season. The Pirates have a better than 55% chance of winning based on 10,000 game simulations generated one play at a time by the AccuScore Simulation Supercomputer. Pirates\' starter Francisco Liriano is forecasted to have a better game than Cardinals\' starter John Lackey. Francisco Liriano has a 60% chance of having a Quality Start (QS) while John Lackey has a 45% chance of a QS. If Francisco Liriano has a quality start the Pirates has a 74% chance of winning. His simulated strikeout to walk ratio is 3.1 and he has a 27% chance of having a 5 to 1 K/BB ratio. When he has a 5/1 ratio the Pirates win 70%. In John Lackey quality starts the Cardinals win 48%. He has a 29% chance of having a 5 to 1 K/BB ratio and if he does his team wins 48% of simulations. In simulations we tracked the batter for each team that was most productive based his average hits, walks and RBI per simulation. The most productive batter for the Pittsburgh Pirates is Andrew McCutchen who averaged 2 hits+walks+RBI. He has a 31% chance of having a big game with 3+ Hits, Walks, RBI and if he has a big game the Pirates have a 75% chance of winning. The most productive batter for the St. Louis Cardinals is Matt Adams who averaged 1.78 hits+walks+RBI. He has a 26% chance of having a big game with 3+ Hits, Walks, RBI and if he has a big game the Cardinals have a 56% chance of winning.

No, Greg Garcia, the infielder, was. That means that on the morning of a series starting in Pittsburgh when the Cardinals expect to get three consecutive quality starts from their top three pitchers -- Lackey, Lynn, and Wainwright, in that order -- they have added a pitcher and subtracted from the bench. Go figure. It's a curious move indeed.

Was Greenwood the one sent down in exchange for Lyons?
