OAK to acquire Dunn, perhaps?

Post by Jocephus »

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Athletics are "closing in" on a trade for Adam Dunn.
The report comes less than an hour after FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal said that the A's were the front-runners to acquire Dunn. Dunn has to waive his no-trade clause in order for a deal to Oakland to go through, but he's expected to do so. The slugger has about $2.5 million remaining on his contract for the rest of this season. Dunn will be a free agent this winter and has hinted at retirement.

Athletics acquired DH Adam Dunn and cash considerations from the White Sox in exchange for RHP Nolan Sanburn.
The A's were on Dunn's limited no-trade list, but he waived the clause for the opportunity to play for a contender. Dunn, who has indicated that he might retire after the season, has never played in a playoff game. The hulking slugger has batted .220/.340/.433 with 20 homers and 54 RBI for the White Sox this season and the A's are hopeful that he'll spark a suddenly dormant offense. He play regularly in the DH spot versus righties.

Ha, a big lumbering slugger. Billy Beane probably had Adam Dunn dreams.

It's crazy I thought Dunn was like 39 or something he's only 34 years old (Gonna be 35)

Still a big homerun threat

Oakland DHs with a .643 OPS this year--wow--so Dunn's .773 is certainly an upgrade.

I saw that too. It seems like he has been around forever, and he's only 34. I was also kind of amazed that he has 460 career homeruns. Of course, when you hit 206 over a five year period, you are well on your way to a good career number.

I'm surprised Dunn is hitting as high as .220. The last three years he's hit .159, .204, and .219.

His .340 OBP isn't great but it makes him about average and negates the low batting average. A 117 OPS+ is a solid upgrade.
