We traded him to the Giants for Orlando Cepeda in the 60's.

20-game winner in 1964, and winner of Game 1 of the World Series that year.

He also briefly pitched for the Cardinals in 1975.

I remember Giants fans being really upset about that trade. I don't think they ever got over it, many have never gotten over it to this day. The Baby Bull was a real fan favorite here. Didn't help that he was a key to our winning going forward.

Trades are just like Forrest Gumps box of chocolates. It will be interesting to see how the Miller/ Heyward trade turns out.

Thus completing the circle - he was traded for Cepeda in 1966, Cepeda was traded for Joe Torre in 1969, Torre was traded for Sadecki before the 1975 season.

He plays a major part in "October 1964", the Halberstam book, in a section that sort of punctures the image of Johnny Keane as St. John the Manager. (Apparently Ray just rubbed Keane the wrong way, what with being a bonus baby and all.)
