I would be fine with them re-working the deal if it means he signs on for at least one more year. But just giving him extra money for the heck of it when he already has multiple millions in the bank seems kind of pointless.

I think that's a fine idea, but I would do almost all of it on incentives. IP incentives, award incentives, etc.ZigZagCardsFan wrote:Not a surprise...

The way I look at it is that his contract, that he agreed to, only pays him the league minimum. That remains the base. But, we're willing to reward him for performing for us rather than retiring. Maybe $1.5M for every 50 innings he pitches.
At this point, I would not add another year, unless it was at a really low rate.

You could just stay with the minimum and say, business is business. Or, you could rework it to a fair to team fair deal for 2 years, and it's a win win. I like the latter, it feels better.

Right. How about an incentive laden two year deal?

Im pretty sure you can't base incentives on performance only counting stats. So u can do 1 million per 20 innings pitched but not 10 million for every point below 4 his era is.

Then what is he worth for 1 year on this market? Give him that for 2 years and call it a day.

Maybe give him a raise the first year but make the 2nd year an option?
