I remember that regular season well & the playoffs fairly well, but the 87 WS, not so much - other than all home games were won and that dome sucked. First semester away at college - must have been binge drinking and trying to do other stuff.

About the only impression I have of game 7, was a weekend IIRC - I remember going into a friend's room drunk off my arse and seeing the Cardinals were about to lose - and was amused by how little I cared due to the state I was in.

.....just realized, I'm the reason the Cardinals lost!

Domes need to be eliminated from baseball. Currently only Milwaukee, Houston, Tampa Bay and Toronto have domes that I can think of and all of them are retractable. Unless it's raining in those cities, the domes should be opened up. Baseball isn't meant to be played indoors.

Also from 1987, evidently:

Mike Ditka was on a roll Thursday. So were the Minnesota Vikings.

Viking General Manager Mike Lynn sent a pair of roller skates to Ditka, who promptly put them on and skated down the hallway of Bear headquarters in Lake Forest`s Halas Hall.

``He said something about me being too cheap to buy our cheerleaders roller skates,`` Lynn said. ``So I sent them with my good wishes, and I hope he wears them in our Rollerdome. I wanted to prove I wasn`t cheap.``

Ditka was impressed.

``Mike Lynn sprung for them. That might refute everything I`ve heard about him from his players,`` said the Bears` coach.

Ditka called the Hubert Humphrey Metrodome a ``Rollerdome`` on Monday, saying no dome is fit for any sport other than roller skating.

On Wednesday, Ditka said that the Viking cheerleaders should be outfitted with skates but that Lynn probably wouldn`t buy them.

On Thursday night, the cheerleaders were scheduled to get the skates at a press conference.

``Great idea. Only thing the dome is good for,`` Ditka repeated. He said he hadn`t decided whether to wear his roller skates to the game.

``We`ll probably have 10,000 show up in roller skates,`` Lynn said.

``Walter Payton called and wanted a pair, so I don`t know what this is going to come to.``

A rolling stop, no doubt.

And worst fans as well. In the 80s and 90s the twin cities were a frontrunner's paradise. Not just the Twins either. The North Stars would draw 5,000 during the regular season and if they won a series or two in the playoffs the place was full.

Mostly what I remember about the '87 WS was that I had dropped out of the U of I and was working at this [expletive] chain steak restaurant in Champaign- Mountain Jack's, I believe- and hardly got to see any of the series. [expletive].
