The collegiate baseball season has begun this afternoon, and the first of the day’s televised games — at least among those available by way of streaming video from CBS’s College Sports Live — is Villanova at North Carolina State.

What follows is a GIF from that game’s first inning of NC State starter Cory Wilder throwing a fastball at 93 mph — a pitch notable less for its quality (although that oughtn’t be ignored, as well), but more because of what it represents for our pending emergence from that waking nightmare called winter.

And because the author has made it, here’s also footage of Wilder’s curveball, thrown moments later:

They are supposed to be using a new baseball this season that's supposed to counteract the effect of the weakened bats to a degree. I'll be interested to see how that goes.

Still not expecting a lot of homers at TD Ameritrade. Jim, you going to the CWS this year?

Thanks for the heads up, Michigan is at Long Beach St this weekend, I think I'll go watch. There are 9 teams within driving distance and I have only been to games at the local junior college.

Arizona State/Oklahoma State, stream works better than mlb.tv:

The ASU color guy sounds like the exactly like the ESPN color guy Greg Stink:

Exactly.

You don't get the camera angles that you do on mlb.tv, but the stream itself works great. I watched about 5 innings Fri. night and am watching today and it's (Pac12 stream) great.

Sunday college baseball tip: Anything can happen. 6-0 OSU lead over ASU disappeared, it's 10-9 OSU in the top of the 8th. You get your #3's going on Sunday and runs will be scored.
