Sorting out the Bullpen

Post by JL21 »

Who breaks camp and heads to STL?

Rosey, Choate, Maness, Walden, and Belisle are locks. That leaves 2 slots for Marco, Freeman, Siegrist, Martinez, Tuivawhatever, and Villanueva.

It's possible Marco or Martinez take a rotation slot, but Garcia seems the natural choice to start the season as #5.

I's say Freeman and Siegrist. I'd rather have Marco and Martinez down starting in a regular rotation than in the pen because odds are we will need both of them to make some starts this year. I think that's harder to do if you've been pitching out of the bullpen.

I agree with lipp, there are some injury risks in the rotation this year and it's preferable to have a couple SP in Memphis who can jump on a plane and be stretched out ready to start on four days notice than to have to reach further down the org's depth chart for a spot starter while worrying how to get CMart or Gonzales back in to starter mode.

I dunno - would you rather pitch relief in the major leagues or start in the minor leagues? Especially given that minor-league salaries are so much lower than major-league salaries?

Salary won't matter since they're all on the 40 man roster and are already making the major league minimum.

Disappointing that Choate is a lock. He should be DFA'd.

I will guess Martinez and Freeman make the team.

If I was in charge, Martinez, Gonzales, and Siegrist would be on the team.

I notice he hasn't pitched in ten days. Wonder if that means anything.

I would imagine that Choate has a very short leash this year.

Being on the 40-man roster doesn't mean you get a major league salary; you get paid at one rate in the majors and another rate in the minors. The exception is if you have a guaranteed major league contract. I think Martinez may have that, but not sure about Gonzales.
