At least Bryant has begun earning it. Two months ago, he was not - as if he'd already been handed the award.

two months ago it was being "handed" to joc pedersonJmodene wrote:At least Bryant has begun earning it. Two months ago, he was not - as if he'd already been handed the award.
and bryant didn't just begin playing well. he's played well all year, though he obviously had a rough spell in july or so.

That's what I was referring to. Had Bryant been playing at this level in July, there wouldn't have been all the talk about the other rookies. I was thinking of Peterson and the bandwagon that was gathering steam back then before he fell into his rough patch.davhern wrote:two months ago it was being "handed" to joc pedersonJmodene wrote:At least Bryant has begun earning it. Shouldn't be, but we have a 19-page thread on why Grichuk could/should win and deserves consideration, and comments about how Bryant (who has been top-20 in MLB in fWAR since his 3rd-4th week up and the most valuable rookie pretty much wire-to-wire) has just now started earning it.Radbird wrote: It shouldn't be an unpopular view.

17 of those pages when he was active. of course he won't win, particularly now.

Yup yup yup. That was all before Grichuk got hurt, going on the assumption that he'd keep mashing the baseball through August and September.Jocephus wrote:17 of those pages when he was active. of course he won't win, particularly now.

Re: Will Randal Grichuk win NL ROY?
Yup yup yup. As long as we assume that Grichuk keeps hitting at 007 points more wOBA than Bryant--based on his 319 PA--we can forget that Bryant played a whole season at at now 5.4 fWAR and a 135 wRC+ with positive defensive and baserunning numbers and go ahead and give the ROY to Grichuk.
Sorry, doesn't work that way. Time played and value added counts and the only candidate for NL ROY is Bryant. If Grichuk at 319 PA and a 141wRC+ with negative D and positive baserunning is a candidate, then a better candidate is Schwarber, who is a 154 wRC+ and negative D but positive baserunning and 2.0 fWAR in just 204 PA.
I get that that's a bad/unpopular thing to say here, on a Cards board, but the Cubs kinda own the Good Rookies thing this year. It's admirable what they have done with hitters coming out of the draft and moving through their system.

I'll just be happy if Grichuk finishes in the top 3 of voting.

Nobody disagrees with you. You are looking for an argument that doesn't exist.33anda3rd wrote:Yup yup yup.
