Will Matt Williams survive as Nats manager?

Post by Knot Hole Gang Vet »

I liked him when he played for the Giants, and think he is a real baseball guy. But, with that roster they put together for him, hitters and pitchers- and all the expectations that came with it, then playing .500 ball so far, I wonder if he is going to take the fall for that.

It shows you that it takes a lot more than a lot of good individual players on a roster, to have a winning record. This seems to be more than a short slump, it is a 5 month one. The usual remedy is to fire the manager. We shall see.

Any thoughts?

If they don't make the playoffs, I think he's definitely gone. If they get in and they don't make it past the first round, same thing. I think winning the WS may be the only way he survives.

If you can't win that division, especially with the talent they have, you don't deserve to keep your job.

No playoffs; no more Matty Williams in DC. Too bad because I like how he runs a team.

No, he won't survive, but I wouldn't really blame that on him. Desmond, Ramos, Zimmerman, Rendon, Span, Taylor, Strasburg, Fister, Werth and most of their bullpen has been either hurt, extremely disappointing or both. Mike Rizzo and his assistant GM Scott Boras are more at fault than Williams.

It's a little of both. They definitely had a bad run of injury luck and poor performances, but he's also a horrible in game manager.

I'm actually surprised he has lasted this long. I'm not sure he even makes it to the end of the season.
