This is the crucial thing.
Leake is no reliever, and he’s being paid to start. If Leake is healthy, he’s a starter.
There's no way he gets demoted in the first year of a 5 year, NTC, contract, unless something seriously weird happens.

I think if Matheny did something that alone called for his firing, it'd be something so egregious he'd be fired on the spot.

I do think Matheny's lack of improvement and poor strategy means he should be fired but likely won't. Maybe next season.

Yeah my reasoning for this thread was to discuss whether Reyes or Leake should be starting. What makes the Saint Louis Cardinals a better team? Leake starting and Reyes in the bullpen OR Reyes starting and Leake in the bullpen?
