As much as I tire of reading stories about Matt Adams' annual weight loss, I am equally tired of reading stories about Kolten Wong trying to figure things out.

Wong heads to back fields to 'jump start' his swing

The good news is we have Gyorko and Greg Garcia, both perfectly capable in-house options to play second.

The bad news is, how much flailing about must Wong put up before either of those guys get subbed in.

I think it would happen relatively quickly. Wong probably isn't the starter right now. The Cardinals are doing a rudimentary version of their own Statcast for balls in play and the weakness of Wong's contact rate matches his average, so says the team. Matheny doesn't regard Wong as a player who gets a long leash, so if he struggles, it'll be a matter of weeks before a change is made. I should actually make my BOLD PREDICTION that Wong is playing everyday for Memphis by April 30.
Matheny explained how hitting coaches John Mabry and Bill Mueller track hard-contact at-bats through spring so that hitters don’t get bogged down in their average. In those tallies, a line drive to an outfielder for an out is more valuable than a bloop fisted over the second baseman’s head. Piscotty tracks well with those numbers having lined out to the third baseman at least twice and another time having a ball tracked down in left-center field.

Wong’s average is more reflective of his swing this spring

I can't see it, but Wainwright has given up three hits, two runs and a walk in two innings. I'm not optimistic about his chances to do well this season.

Grichuk hits a triple.

...and gets thrown out on a 6-2.

Yeah the way GreGar has played there's no way they put a sub 200 Wong in the lineup to start the season.
