He's very good. The Post-Dispatch should find room for him right away.

There's some big names on that list of layoffs.

He was a part of a two man team covering for Bernie while he was on vacation, so he many be doing some radio too.

Sports are what keep many local rags going. The P-D keeps laying reporters and staffers off yet hiring sports people. They'll be the last to go. Which, to your point, may not be that far off.
