Happened in 2nd inning of Memphis game today

That's some scary stuff when that happens. Whenever you get a line drive up the middle like that the pitcher is lucky to avoid getting his head taken off. Hopefully he'll be okay.

On the radio broadcast they said he was taken to the hospital, is conscious and speaking. He'll be staying there to continue to be checked out.

On May 7, 1957, during the first inning of a night game against the New York Yankees at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland, Score threw a low fastball to Gil McDougald with Jim Hegan catching. McDougald lined the pitch to the mound and struck Score in the face, breaking Score's facial bones and injuring his eye.

I'm pretty sure that any time anyone takes a clean hit to the noggin they automatically take them to the hospital as a precaution. Thankfully he never lost conciousness.
For the people that say that pitchers should wear helmets unless it has some ridiculous face mask or ear flaps it wouldn't help deflect the ball at all.

Had surgery to relieve pressure in his skull...sounds pretty serious
