The Albert Pujols milestone thread
I thought his imminent 600th home run and other approaching milestones deserves to be broken out of the former Cardinals player thread. He hasn't hit #600 yet, but he just passed Babe Ruth for 44th on the all time hit list with number 2874.

It would be fun if hit #3000 was also HR #600 but the fact that they will be a couple weeks apart is still pretty cool.

Re: The Albert Pujols milestone thread
He has 2874 hits now, not 2974.
If he averages 125 hits and 20 HR for the rest of his contract (including that many more the rest of this year), he'll essentially be at 3500 hits and 700 HR. I think "wow that's incredible" and then realize that Hank Aaron had more hits and more HR than that and have more appreciation for the greatness of Aaron.

I think the scant coverage has a lot more to do with the fact that the Angels are a poorly-run franchise and after six seasons, Pujols will have made the playoffs once. It's hard for fans and media to get excited about individual accomplishments when its accompanied with a terrible team.

Good thing he has all that respect to fall back on. Plus the 10 year personal services contract when it is over.Farewell Friends wrote:I think the scant coverage has a lot more to do with the fact that the Angels are a poorly-run franchise and after six seasons, Pujols will have made the playoffs once. It's like watching the odometer on a 2005 Ferrari crawl toward 200,000 miles.

Another sad outcome of not finishing his career here IMO.

Wasn't part of the reason he was signed was because all of the buzz and money that the chase for all these milestones would bring? Yeah I'm guessing that's not working out too well

Re: The Albert Pujols milestone thread
Right after he left the team was still making it to the NLCS every year and to another world series but still have yet to win a world series since he left. But at the same time we don't have the luxury of the DH spot so who knows if we'd be able to keep him playing every day if he was still here.
