10 of 25 on the MLB active roster spent time in Memphis this year.

Right. In what reality does ANYBODY look at his waning capabilities and not pull the plug. Losing, over, 5mph off his pitches is not a normal thing for a mid-season pitcher.

One swinging strike in his last two outings. I know I'm just an armchair manager, but he has nothing left. His cutter topped out at 80 mph. Two weeks ago against Cincinnati, he was averaging 84 mph. Wainwright is a St. Louis legend, but they can't let him rest up for 10 days and think that's going to fix it. Time to shut it down.

Well, if he doesn't need surgery, they can put him on the DL till September, and then re-activate him on 9/1 once rosters expand. No harm.

Sure, keep him around as a mascot and a pinch hitter, but they can't start him if they're playing important games.
