Same. He just pitched great whenever we needed him to. He wasn't that good but he had some real stand out performances.Fat Strat wrote:I was a huge WW fan. I'm banking on Cal Eldred. Another perfect addition to the culture of blameshifting and groupthink that is the Cardinals.CardsofSTL wrote:Matheny will probably bring Matty Mo back to be pitching coach. Matheny, Mabry, Morris. Getting the band back together.

I liked Woody Williams...the Cardinals traded Lankford for him in an August waiver deal...that was like the first time I had ever heard of a waiver trade.Magneto2.0 wrote:Same. That’s who I’m wondering if it is/who they’re targeting...they both were let go the same day...wonder if they got wind he was leaving and decided to get rid of Lilly.
From what they’ve said they’re looking for, he’s the guy they’d want.

Just think Mo and MM should go at first!

Re: Derek Lilliquist gone as pitching coach
As some here already speculated, the emerging story seems to be that the front office isn't pleased with MM's in game decisions with pitchers and wanted a change of personnel to rebalance authority. It seems as if either MM wasn't listening to DL or DL was too loyal to MM for the FO's liking. Buried in this decision is also yet another hint that the Cardinals have a non-traditional view of what the manager's role is. They continue to trend toward the manager being that "leader of men" more so than the tactician, sort of how a progressive corporation utilizes a CEO + COO dynamic. This is of course the opposite of what we had with TLR, who was the ultimate CEO and COO tactician.

It sounds like Matheny is practically a ward of the state, requiring round-the-clock supervision.
