Gibson finished the season with 28 complete games out of 34 games started. Of the games he didn't complete, he was pinch-hit for, meaning Gibson was not removed from the mound for another pitcher for the entire season.

I was going to say. Red was no dummy and about half the size of Gibby.GeddyWrox wrote:Manager was too scared to go take the ball from him.Radbird wrote:Perhaps the most amazing factoid about Gibby's '68 season (fr wiki)Gibson finished the season with 28 complete games out of 34 games started. July 17, 1974 - Bob Gibson recorded his 3,000th career strikeout. Cesar Geronimo of the Reds was the player who fanned to give Gibson 3,000. Six years later, Geronimo would become the victim of Nolan Ryan’s 3,000th strikeout.
Spoilered for Size, but great pic. Credit FB page Vintage St. Louis & Route 66The Cards lost this game and losing was not in Gibson's DNA. As he walked off the field, he respectfully acknowledged the thunderous ovation from fans but he didn't make a curtain call. After the game, he left the stadium without speaking with reporters. Gibson didn't dismiss the importance of the milestone... he just would have preferred the milestone be reached during a win. This competitive drive is what made Gibson so special and such a pleasure to watch.

Aug 10, 1995 - Cardinals win the last game forfeit in MLB. Yup - it's been almost 25 years since a forfeit in the bigs.
