I think prior to the Goldy trade, many had been saying that a legit middle of the order bat was the glaring hole in the lineup. He does change the makeup quite a bit.

Yeah, there's no substitution for a legitimate dyed-in-the-wool superstar bat in the middle of the order. Someone who has to be worked around, who is disruptive to the other team and productive for the Cards.

"Middle of the order bat" = batting 1 or 2.

Anyone notice we seem to [expletive] the bed every time this thread gets bumped?

I definitely blame this thread.

I think I'll start an elimination number thread.

Re: Kuechel. I have said it before and will say it again. His signing creates a 40 man problem. Obviously, you'd rather have Kuechel than Thomas talent wise, but I'm not sure the FO would rather have Kuechel and his contract than Thomas and his contract even with the rotatoin somewhat strugggggggling.

There's something named Merandy Gonzalez on the 40 man. He was DFA'd by both San Francisco and Miami this year. Signing Keuchel in no way creates a 40 man problem.

We are going to give up 432 HRs this season. And still be good? Apparently.

Brilliant strategy IMO. Al has told us that homers are rally killers for years now.

I had missed that bc he wasn’t on the roster when we discussed it previously. Outside the 50k or whatever penalty fee is, yeah they’re not missing much.

Gonzalez is so mediocre that police officers issue a Merandy warning before a team picks him up.

Is it just the NL Central or has the league been trending towards big bats in the second lineup spot? Goldy, Votto, Rizzo, Yelich, etc
