Treat Yourself To Bartolo Colon's "Batters Faced" Page On Baseball Reference
Quote:
That is a link to Baseball Reference’s collection of Bartolo Colon’s record against every batter he has faced over the past two decades and change, and it is as crystalline and appropriately uncanny a representation of what Colon has done and is still somehow doing as any of the individuated highlights that he still periodically throws off. Baseball has changed a great deal since Colon debuted in 1997, but it has also turned over multiple times; it is one thing to say that Colon started pitching in the majors when Bill Clinton was President of the United States, but it makes more concrete emotional sense, at least to me, when you consider that Colon faced Kevin Elster and Kevin Young and Jim Leyritz and Tim Raines and Mike Blowers six times each.

I finally had some time to peruse that list. Here are some that I found notable:

Frank Thomas - 38 PA
Ken Griffey, Jr. - 29
Delino Deshields Sr. - 22 (it's a crime that Colon hasn't faced Deshields, Jr. yet)
Jose Canseco - 19
AJ Hinch - 18
Will Clark - 17
Kenny Lofton - 17
Roberto Alomar - 14
Fernando Tatis - 14
Fernando Vina - 14
Kolten Wong - 14
Rickey Henderson - 11
Prince Fielder - 10
Cecil Fielder - 8 (there is the father/son combo)
Chili Davis - 8
Tim Raines - 6
Cal Ripken - 5
Wade Boggs - 4
Barry Bonds - 4
Andres Galarraga - 3
Terry Pendleton - 3
Tommy Pham - 3

And some no-name rookie who will face him once in a September call-up and then retire 20 years from now as a future HoFer that will complete this mind blowing list.

I just can't cheer for the guy. PEDs and having a second family is probably the reason.

Quote:
The 42-year-old hurler has been dragged into Manhattan court by Alexandra Santos, 38, who claims the $7 million-a-year player is a deadbeat dad who failed to pay child support for their elementary-school-age kids.

Colon — who has earned more than $100 million in his career — sired the children with the Washington Heights woman while he was also playing the dutiful family man with wife Rosanna and their four sons.

Ha!

Just odd how we crucify some guys for PEDs (the collective 'we', not GRB), but think of Bartolo as a jolly ol' grandpa out there having fun.
