Mike Scioscia's 19-year run with the Angels is at an end.
Scioscia, the longest-tenured manager in baseball, stepped down from his post following the club's regular-season finale on Sunday against the A's, a 5-4 win. The move was widely expected, as Scioscia was in the final days of the 10-year, $50 million contract he signed with the club in January 2009.

Mike Trout is 5th among all active MLB players in WAR (maybe 4, one is Beltre). He turned 27 less than 2 months ago.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Eric Wedge, John McDonald, Stubby Clapp, David Bell, and Sandy Alomar Jr. are among the names under consideration for the Blue Jays' managerial vacancy.
There could be several others. Rosenthal notes that many of these candidates have ties to Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro and general manager Ross Atkins from their days with the Indians. Clapp is an outlier in that regard, but he's one of the hotter names on the managerial market after guiding the Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate to the national championship in 2018. Clapp is a native of Windsor, Ontario. The Blue Jays cut ties with John Gibbons in late September.

Nationals acquired RHP Kyle Barraclough from the Marlins for interenational bonus pool money.
The Marlins are loading up their international budget to chase Cuban talent and they've long considered relievers expendable, so Barraclough gets shown the door after a disappointing season in which he struggled in the closer's role and finished with a 4.20 ERA. But while Barraclough's stock is down, it's still disappointing that the Marlins couldn't recoup some talent for him, instead of just the right to hopefully purchase talent. Barraclough has a 3.21 ERA and 279 strikeouts in 219 innings since debuting in 2015. His velocity has declined some and he never has gotten much better at throwing strikes, but he's still a great get for the Nationals at this cost.

Brad Ziegler announced his retirement Wednesday after 11 big-league seasons.
He did so on his 39th birthday. Especially for someone who didn't debut until age 28, Ziegler had a heck of a career, making 739 relief appearances with a 2.75 ERA and 105 saves. He even led the majors in appearances at age 38, pitching in 82 games and throwing a career-high 73 2/3 innings this year between the Marlins and Diamondbacks. He would have had no trouble finding work as a free agent this winter.

https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-notebook-c ... --mlb.htmlThe Chicago Cubs have fired hitting coach Chili Davis after one season, according to several media reports, after the team's offensive production faltered in the second half of the season.
Davis, 58, was hired in October 2017 after spending the previous six seasons as a hitting coach with the Boston Red Sox (2015-17) and Oakland Athletics (2012-14).

The Rangers have done their first interviews in the search to replace fired manager Jeff Banister. According to people familiar with the details, the Rangers on Thursday interviewed Chicago Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde in Arlington, and did a phone interview with Astros bench coach Joe Espada because Houston is preparing for the start of the ALCS against Boston.
Giants bench coach Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens has interviewed with the Reds for their open managerial position and also is set to meet with the Twins this week for the job that opened when Paul Molitor was fired. Meulens was in Minneapolis on Thursday and scheduled to interview with the Twins through Friday after traveling from Cincinnati. He met with the Reds, who fired Bryan Price after a 3-15 start. A former hitting coach with the Giants when they won World Series titles in 2010, '12 and '14, Meulens became bench coach this past season and Bruce Bochy's right-hand man in his ninth season with the club.
