Didi Gregorius will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow after an MRI revealed a ulnar collateral ligament tear.

Yikes. Gregorius evidently injured his elbow on a throw during Game 1 the ALDS against the Red Sox but gutted through the ailment for the rest of the series. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that he expects Gregorius to be able to play the "bulk" of next season, but obviously he's facing a long rehab. Gleyber Torres could slide over to shortstop while Gregorius is out, but the Yanks will also weigh options from outside the organization.

there goes machado...machado and torres on the left side for NYY, and when Didi comes back the middle/end of next year he'll be a UT player, or they'll trade him

Yeppers. I wonder if Philly is even in the conversation anymore for Manny.

Agreed. I don't think Machado wants to play for any other team besides the Dodgers and Yankees and Dodgers have Seager back obviously.

Sonny Gray is going to be on the trade block. I found this interesting:

MLB Trade Rumors wrote:
To his credit, Gray notched an 8.49 K/9 mark, maintained the velocity on his fastball (93.3 mph average), generated a solid 10.1 percent swinging-strike rate and induced grounders at a characteristically strong 50 percent clip. Nearly all of his struggles were confined to pitching at Yankee Stadium, where he turned in a ghastly 6.98 ERA and allowed 11 home runs in 59 1/3 innings. When pitching away from the Bronx, Gray logged a strong 3.17 ERA and yielded just three homers in 71 innings of work.

That home/road disparity, paired with Gray’s track record and relative youth — he’ll turn 29 in November — should make him a popular buy-low candidate for teams looking to supplement their rotation.

The DBacks are changing to field turf....

It is tough to grow grass in 118 degree Arizona weather...

I wonder if they will still have the path between home and the mound... (edit) Just read the story, and the path will still be there...

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Anthony Iapoce is leaving the Rangers to become the new hitting coach for the Cubs.

He'll replace Chili Davis, who was let go by the Cubs last week after just one season on the job. It's a logical fit, as Iapoce worked as special assistant to the general manager with the Cubs for three seasons before leaving to take the job with the Rangers prior to the 2016 season. The Rangers already fired manager Jeff Banister, so their staff is headed for quite the shakeup.

Jeets is really turning the Marlins around. They're unveiling a new logo in November.

I'll pick up some Depends undergarments to get ready for the excitement.
