If Wong doesn't win the gold glove, it's a huge sham.
Bader is deserving too.

Isn't it pretty much universally accepted among people that actually pay attention to baseball that the gold glove is a sham?Big Amoco Sign wrote:If Wong doesn't win the gold glove, it's a huge sham.

Yes. The GG definitely has a offense-based component.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Isn't it pretty much universally accepted among people that actually pay attention to baseball that the gold glove is a sham?Big Amoco Sign wrote:If Wong doesn't win the gold glove, it's a huge sham.

yes, which makes it even worse...they have an award for offense by position. it's called the silver slugger. same with MVP and Cy Young. pitchers should not be eligible for the MVP; they have an MVP award already; it's called the damn cy young award.letsgocards89 wrote:Yes. I mean, you can just say "Rafael Palmiero" and win this argument.

Goldschmidt winning over Votto last year was kind of dumb though. Everyone else, I'm okay with.
You could argue Seager over Crawford but Crawford has been stellar for a few years now and is also deserving. He had 55 more plays made at short despite less DRS.
Cain will win CF over Bader but if they pick three OFs then Bader is deserving.

I was testing the earlier theory that saying his name would win arguments.Big Amoco Sign wrote:Said "recent years"CardsofSTL wrote:Rafeal PalmeiroBig Amoco Sign wrote:I thought they leaned a lot on DRS in recent years?

Palmeiro was also the best defensive 1B from 1997-1999 in the AL. I don't see problem with him getting it those years. Check Fangraphs yourself, he led AL in "total zone" those years for 1B.
Best or not, it's still a bit dubious to award a guy "best defensive 1B" in a year when he played 28 games at 1B and 128 games at DH.Big Amoco Sign wrote:Said "recent years"CardsofSTL wrote:Rafeal PalmeiroBig Amoco Sign wrote:I thought they leaned a lot on DRS in recent years?
