Disappointment Poll

Post by Radbird »

With 25% of the season behind us, what's been the Redbirds biggest on-field issue? I specified "on-field" because if dugout issues were included (talking about you, Mike) the poll would likely be unanimous. He may be driving the issue (i.e. bullpen usage, loyalty to underperforming veterans, etc.) which we can talk about in the comments.

Offense, specifically hard contact. Walk rate is great, and they're hitting some bombs, but they're not hitting the ball hard frequently enough.

I voted Leroy because you don't have Management as an option. I know it says 'on-field'. But I think how the on-field is managed is legitimate.

Offense.

If it weren't for *cough*cough* Bud Norris, and to a lesser degree, Jordan Hicks, I would've probably voted bullpen. They're covering for erryone else out there.

The bullpen has met my expectations.

But I am really disappointed in the offense. I thought it would be significantly better than it is.

Their biggest issue is other front offices are smarter now and the teams the Cardinals build aren't good enough.

This offense, on paper, should have been good enough.

But I agree the bullpen was not built well enough.

Offense and it ain't close. Ozuna's OPS has gone from 146 to 67. He has to be playing hurt, because otherwise I'd suspect Miami shipped us some hobo in an Ozuna jersey and kept the real guy stashed in a storage unit somewhere.

Fowler's OPS+ has fallen from 122 to 56. Again, age related decline is one thing. Like Ozuna, that's about 70 points dropped. For context, the year we let Pete Kozma start every day, he had a 53 OPS+.

Thank God for Pham, Jose Martinez, and DeJong*.

*A .351 OBP for DeJong may be the best development of the season.

i picked offense. it's not fun to watch outside of pham.

i figure the bullpen can keep being rotated around until it clicks into place although there's a lot of suck there too.

the team does seem better than the last few years but i still find them incredibly boring and not entertaining (which they don't have to be i guess if they win). just seems like the floor is up a bit but i'm not sure the ceiling moved.
