Just the team's position in the standings; that's all.

Yeah, that's why he played 13 seasons in the big leagues and has managed for another seven. Because he has no energy.

He's managed for seven seasons because the upper management of the Cardinals have extended him opportunities he doesn't deserve. That's a poor argument to lead with.

Nor does length of tenure make for a compelling argument that he's an energetic or meaningful leader anyways. And as with everything in life, it's relative. Is he a literal zombie? No. Is he a zombie compared to some other firebrand managers, some of whom are in our own franchise history? Yes.

Eric Lauer Has Seven Pickoffs
by Jeff Sullivan

Leading off the bottom of the first inning on Wednesday, Harrison Bader worked a full count against Eric Lauer and hit a single up the middle. In a matchup between two promising National League rookies, Bader appeared to have the upper hand. Tommy Pham stepped in and saw a first-pitch strike, and then the Cardinals TV broadcast said the following:
One thing to keep in mind — Lauer has a tremendous pickoff move. He has picked off four in four consecutive games.

Now five.

Mo's biggest weakness is figuring out how to acquire a good bullpen.

Matheny's biggest weakness is figuring out how to manage a bad bullpen.

Dangerous combination.
