I actually don't think that Mo is really the problem. I think that our talent evaluation process is not as good as it once was. Whether that is scouting, analytics, or some combination of both.TigCards wrote:Somewhere in all this misery , Mo should share in some of this failure . It's hard to pin down to one area. Its also not as if our talent evaluation is poor. It's just average now, where it was once very good. For every decision like Mikolas or Norris, there have been obvious mistakes like Holland and Gregerson. I think the same thing is true of our self scouting of prospects.
Of course, Mo is ultimately responsible for all of that. And maybe if you fired him, we would do better. We could also do a lot worse.
Also, I would argue that maybe -- probably -- the league has caught up to us in player evaluation, and the competition for players who score out well is extremely intense. It's hard to find competitive advantages. I actually think that the Cards know that they can't out evaluate other teams anymore. They also know they've had to settle for players that they knew were less than what they wanted because the alternative was losing or being financially irresponsible. I think we see this in acquisitions like Leake, Fowler, and even Ozuna, to some extent (they wanted Stanton and Yelich and had willingly settle for Ozuna because of cost and availability.)
