Tries to stretch out Poncedeleon for three. Doesn't work. Has to burn the closer. They used to have a roster filled with these kinds of problems.
This is not untrue.
The problem with this type of roster is that it gets burnt out real fast (which Shildt doesn't seem adept at preventing at this point imo*). Sure, they win games, but you can't pitch Norris/Hicks/Hudson every game. Two of them got the night off last night which was needed. And, Norris got the night of before (still probably needs a rest day or two here quickly). It'd be nice if we could lose a blowout or win a blowout so all the arms are ready for the series this weekend with the Brewers.
*Not that he has time to; if they want to make the playoffs, they have to secure every win they can at this point.
This type of roster meaning what? A starting staff that goes 5? Not sure what you’re seeing.

A roster where Martinez is the clear cut 3rd OF and where the toughest decision is rather to play Gyorko or Garcia at 3rd. O'Neill's back which makes it a little tougher, but the lineup has really been forced lately. Hell, Molina has played 23 games in a row now iirc which I don't think anyone really thinks is a good idea.
