Depending on the asking price, Jed Lowrie would be a great MI platoon bat. Hits better as a lefty over the last couple of seasons.

Goold mentioned Lowrie and Asdrubal Cabrera (I think) as possibilities as left handed Munoz/Robinson replacements. It just depends on the playing time they demand. That's what seems to be keeping us from finishing out the bench the way that we want.

Quote:

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports the Mets have agreed to a two-year deal with Jed Lowrie.
The exact financial terms aren't known and the deal is pending a physical, but Passan reports that the deal is for at least $20 million, with Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports saying that it's "precisely" that amount. An interesting -- and a bit surprising -- pickup for the Mets, who recently acquired fellow second baseman Robinson Cano from the Mariners. It's likely one of the two will be changing positions now, although Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets plan to play Lowrie everyday at various positions; possibly even first base until Peter Alonso is "ready." The 34-year-old is coming off a career season that saw him hit 23 homers and drive in 99 runs with a .267/.353/.448 line for the playoff-bound Athletics.

Feels like there's a trade coming for the metros. Frazier, or Rosario to Mil?

The Biggest Injury Wild Card for 2019
by Jeff Sullivan

But as I think about this — certain recoveries are more predictable than others. Certain recovering players have bigger error bars than others. In a sense, the purpose behind this post is simply to remind you of the existence of Jimmy Nelson. But I think he really is the biggest injury wild card for the season ahead. The Brewers will play in a division with at least three and possibly five competitive teams. As of this moment, the Brewers are projected to have a below-average starting rotation. Jimmy Nelson might be a zero, as he was in 2018. Or he might be an ace, as he was in 2017. I don’t know which it’s going to be. The Brewers don’t, either.

Nelson is currently optimistic, saying he’ll be at 100% for spring training. That’s good news, and he’s well past a year since his surgery. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard optimism, though, as Nelson got going quickly in his rehab. For a while, it looked as if he might return in 2018, perhaps even around the All-Star break. No return ever happened. It’s not exactly that there was a setback — Nelson’s just trying to come back from a lot. He didn’t undergo some run-of-the-mill operation on his elbow.

Nelson was injured in September 2017, and he wasn’t injured pitching. Rather, he was injured sliding back into first base after rounding too aggressively. He actually pitched the bottom half of the same inning, but then he was removed, and he hasn’t pitched for the Brewers since. The slide destroyed his shoulder, and he needed major surgery.

Curry says that the Yankees plan to use LeMahieu at second, third and first base. The fit is a strange one, as the Yanks already have Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar and Troy Tulowitzki pegged for jobs and that's not even including Didi Gregorius' (elbow) eventual return. LeMahieu will get to trade one hitter-friendly park for another, but he'll have to change leagues and doesn't figure to play as much as he had in Colorado. The signing would also seem to further diminish the chances of the Yankees signing Manny Machado.

looking more and more likely that machado ends up on the White Sox or PHI, with harper returning to WAS

I really don't understand that deal. They have Andujar and Torres.

Good contact hitter and someone they can rely on defensively. He will help them in the post season.
